Room Parents

SPTO Room Parent Information

A room parent’s main task is to facilitate communication between classroom parents, the teacher, the SPTO, and occasionally school administration. Understandable, this can vary widely from class to class and teacher to teacher.

For the most part, as a room parent you’ll solicit donations (paper goods, supplies etc.) from parents for classroom parties and events (usually based on a list from the teacher), help coordinate holiday parties and Teacher Appreciation Week in May, organize volunteers for the classroom for events or enrichment, and other tasks as decided by the teacher.

Room Parents are asked to attend SPTO meetings whenever possible. The meetings occur on the second Wednesday of every month. Attending meetings are a wonderful way to interact with other parents and to stay informed about SPTO activities. (For example, room parents may help the SPTO promote an event by reminding their parents of an upcoming program or fundraiser.)

This year, we hope to form a collaborative effort with the SPTO sister organization – the Sunapee Middle High School Booster Club. Like the SPTO, the Booster Club works to enhance the school experience for students, parents, teachers and administrators.

Some of the events we have on an annual basis:

  • Chowder Challenge
  • Thanksgiving Pie Sale (in conjunction with the Turkey Trot5K)
  •  Holiday LotteryCard
  •  Teacher AppreciationWeek

We look forward to hearing any and all ideas you may have for improving the SPTO!
